Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind

A fascinating journey through a love story...so fascinating that somewhere along the way you figure you aren't understanding too much. It's in fact my second time watching, and still losing my way ....and at some point the aha coming.....as much from the heart as the head.

The film starts with Joel (Jim Carrey) and Clementine (Kate Winslet) meeting on a train, and it's like they're meeting for the first time, but somewhere a curious knowing, an ease of being, the tug and pull, a deeper connect....the feeling they know each other.

As story, they were in a relationship, a tumultuous relationship and in an impulsive moment Clementine goes through some complex quack process of getting all her memories of Joel removed. Joel is so upset on hearing about it, that he decides to get his memories of her removed as well.

I liked the scene where he walks into that office with two huge bags full of memories ( I'm a big one for collecting those bag fulls :). Half way through the procedure he realizes he's still in love with her.

Rest of movie is about how Joel and Clementine are racing to find and keep memories ......little memories, old memories tucked away in corners of the mind, and not allowing the quack scientist group full access.....avoiding a complete forget. A race to refind what they had and have. Sequences that flit between present and past so rapidly that it leaves you dazed and wonderous.

It's a complex narrative of the connect between the two...awareness in the present... memories from the past...the thread that enables the present.... the experiencing self and the remembering self inseparable.

Loved the symbolism of the cover picture. A moment frozen in time, moments which hold it all, past and present........and I daresay future, as these are moments which last forever.
