This is one movie that works as a mood upper for me. Simple and Sweet.
Amanda (Cameron Diaz) and Iris (Kate Winslet), two women across the world, both on verge of emotional breakdown over relationships gone bad, do a home exchange to take a break. And during the break, they find that life's really not all that bad, that magic can still happen...they find love and joy again.
Iris, a lovelorn, and pathetically sad, successful writer for the Daily Telegraph, is caught in a relationship defined by her as 'unrequited love'. She lives in this quaint British cottage, (almost out of Hansel and Gretel ). And on holiday she meets Miles (James Black) a music composer.
Amanda, a beautiful, rich, animated workaholic, a woman who's forgotten how to cry. She lives in a fancy LA Hollywood mansion. She meets Graham (Jude Law) a reclusive writer with two adorable little girls. The chemistry between Amanda and Graham was so good, it felt real....and yes, she actually learns to cry and loves that he's the guy that makes it happen.
It's pretty extreme in it's contrasts..... personalities, locations, living styles, what have you. And yet to see that there's possible threads that connect.

While it's simple and straight chocolaty mush, it also makes you wonder if 'The Holiday' is like pun intended. Can such mushy perfect love happen only as 'holiday' ? :)
an extended period of leisure and recreation, especially one spent away from home or in traveling is the dictionary meaning for holiday. Mushy love requires the time and space away from routine activities of life. Step away from routine to expierence the exhilarating joys of imagination. And maybe the holiday with those who are not part of routine will bring in above. 😂
ReplyDeleteHey there....that sure brought a smile :)
