Dhruva's animation short film 'The End', has been selected and is being screened at JIFF, the Jaipur International Film Festival.
Sweetly enough, he received the notification yesterday..... on his birthday, with an invite to attend. Talk of special days and wonderful feelings.
And thrilling is being selected in a film fest in the country, he's especially happy about that (it's been selected at the Italy and Mexico film fests as well). It's a proud mom, so taking full bragging rights :)
And these numbers make it feel so special.
Total Nominated films 29 from 13 countries
(Total films received 571 from 62 countries)
Here's the list of 29 films being screened, May 4 to 6 '2018. Dhruva's is last one on Day 1. And what's more, it says 'all films being screened are winners'
It's so deeply satisfying to see this outcome of the seven months he spent, fully engrossed, stretched, stressed, committed......lost in a world we had little access to. His connect with the story and character seemed hundred percent, and this comes through in the layered symbolism and depth of feeling in the film.
For a movie called 'The End', and considering it's about post war trauma, depicting the ensuing hopelessness, loneliness, suicide .......... it's uniquely uplifting. About finding purpose and meaning. No words......all feelings....and all within seven minutes.
It's a film done pretty much single handedly, (except for music score, which also he is so deeply involved in), right from conceptualization, storyboarding, texturing, lighting, modeling, creation of characters, (he wanted a name that wouldn't identify with any particular country), the animation.
And strangely enough, when we see credits, the list just goes on and on.
It has his professors ofcourse, and his mentors, and some friends. Then there's Kiwi, our dog, who seems core inspiration, and skinny, his stray pet dog in college who gets special mention. Surprise element was that it even has all our names on it. When his thatha asked him, "arre, even our name is here, what did we do", he said 'you stood by me through it all, and that matters thatha'. It was so amazing to see that expression of gratitude. Touched by that trait in you Dhruva.
Super proud of you kanna, many Congratulations...... and enjoy the large screen viewing in Jaipur !!
That's so absolutely fantastic! Many congratulations..
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Dicky and Smitha. You must be proud parents. You brought him up very well with all the family values to remember and even thank his grandparents. Against having pets I do not realise their importance, but sure all animal lovers would adore what he has done not just his pet at home but even the strays.
ReplyDeleteBelated happy birthday Dhruv.
Wish you all the best in your future endeavours.
Congrats Dhruva. It's now a believer bragging. When I saw you draw a character from your imagination while you were in 11 th I think, because I asked you to draw an animated picture, your talent leaped out to me and this recognition is proof.
ReplyDeleteHats off to you Smitha, for supporting him to get into animation. The effort and the research you did to ensure he got the best college is noteworthy apart from the struggle to listen to and convince the conservstist in family and friends that wanted him to do engineering, IAS and every other 'approved' courses. So many happy emotions running through me, seeing his name in company of established producers and directors. The laid back child who was always polite, warm and thoughtful in his words and action bloom into this wonderful thinking, articulate animator, film maker, director gives such a lovely feeling. Dhruva you will be like the star you are named after, evershining in that special place in the universe. And I will continue to glow in this warm feeling of seeing the creation of creativity..More and more films from you, more and more recognition to you, boy. Yeah you will always remain to me the sweet boy with that deep love for Kiwi, books, TV, sports and of course Films. Keep shining 💫
and you my friend keep ☺.
Many thanks Vishakha :)
