This was yet another lovely 'rediscover the day', from 6 years back, to the day. I'd taken a week off on a Google work trip, and made a visit to Nammu, a favorite cousin, at Vermont. This was like chance to revisit (and also rediscover how I was at 70 kilos :)
A trip that shows just how vast a country the US is, going from west coast California to east coast Vermont...a ten hour flight I think.
We were meeting up after years and years, and it was such a wonderful time that I'm all the more glad for this particular rediscover the day. She lives in this most picturesque place, a lovely house, in the woods, a little lake in the backyard..... her nearest neighbor 3 kms away.
And, hold your breath...she lives there all by herself, a conscious choice. Nammu, I'm wowed all over again.
That's her.
And that's her house, and her car ( I remember dhruva after an earlier trip there saying "amma, she actually grows turnips even in the boot of her car")
That's a natural lake right in her backyard. It was October, proper autumn, so pretty much fully into leaf fall time.
Her dog, Stella, showing me her teddy bear
Nammu with Stella in the house...the way he jumps on her, you'd think she's a little dog, she's just that very playful
That's the firewood that accumulated all year for fireplace use during winter. Vermont is a popular ski resort in the US, so you can imagine the cold.
That's the view sitting in her back porch, and the lake right there. We even saw a snake go by.
Nammu with a friend, Ed or Bill, I forget the name, but he was one of the most interesting and fascinating people I've met.
On a walk down her road. There are these pretty creaks flowing everywhere.
The drive out.
That's the town post office
This was on the drive to see the Von Trapp house. One tourist spot in Vermont ( other than it's natural beauty which is just anywhere you look) is the Von Trapp Family home, which is now run as a lodge by the Von Trapp descendants, Captain and Maria ( as known from Sound of Music ). It's one of my all time favourite movies, so I just had to visit.
That's how picturesque it is anywhere you look
Thank you smitha for the lovely pictures if Vermont, you and Nammu.
ReplyDeleteGlad to have girija!
